Phua Chin Eng, the founder, principal and driving force behind Landart, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture (1996) and a Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning (1992) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He has been listed as a corporate member of the Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia (ILAM) since year 2000.

Prior to settling down in Penang to embark on his adventurous journey of establishing Landart in 1998, Phua had spent the earlier days of his career in Pro-Tech Consultancy Akitek & Perunding Pembangunan and Pentago Sdn. Bhd. in Kuala Lumpur as well as Ecoplan Landscape Architects & Planners in Singapore. With almost two decades of experience in this field, Phua taps upon his expertise and knowledge to guide and lead the design team while supplying indispensable conceptual ideas during both the planning and designing stages. As an avid, qualified senior in the Malaysian landscape architecture industry, Phua became one of the judges for the Malaysian Landscape Architecture Awards (MLAA) competitions in year 2012 and year 2013.

Over the many years of involvement in the landscape architecture world, Phua has bagged numerous prestigious awards both for himself and for Landart, among others include:

  • Best Designer for Architecture Awards from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (1993, 1994, 1995)
  • First Prize in the International Students Design Competition for the Eco-Tourism Project in New Zealand (1995)
  • Grand Prize in the logo competition conducted by Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia (1995)
  • Citation Awards in the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) International Students’ Competition in Bangkok, Thailand (1995)
  • Outstanding Bomanite Project Worldwide 1999 for the Gold Coast Condominium Resort (2000)
  • Best Bomanite Project in Region Asia/Australia for Cardos Automation System, Penang, Malaysia (2001)
  • Best Housing FIABCI (Federation Internationale des Administrateurs de Bien-Conselis Immobilisers) Award 2004 for Laguna Merbok, Kedah Darul Ama, Malaysia.
